A deeply disturbing case involving allegations of sexual assault against two Hindu sisters, one of them a minor, has emerged from Cooch Behar district. The accused, identified as Abul Kalam Azad, is reportedly absconding, with police searching for him following a complaint lodged by the family.

According to the family’s allegations, the elder sister had been staying in Mathabhanga for work, where she became acquainted with Azad. She has accused him of sexually exploiting her on the promise of marriage. The family alleges that the the minor younger sister had travelled to visit her elder sister. A few days ago, while returning from a local market, she was approached by Azad, who offered to drop her home on his motorcycle. Knowing him through her elder sister, the girl reportedly trusted him and accepted the offer.

But, according to the complaint, he did not take her home. Instead, he allegedly drove her to an isolated location and sexually assaulted her. He is then said to have abandoned her at another place before fleeing. Local residents reportedly came to the girl’s assistance and alerted her family.

The family subsequently submitted a written complaint at the Cooch Behar Kotwali Women’s Police Station. Police have reportedly begun efforts to trace the accused, while the investigation remains underway.
