Bangladesh: Attacks continue, Durga Murti set ablaze in Gaibandha district

Hindu Voice Team: Attacks on the Hindu minorities continues in the Muslim-majority Bangladesh. Now, a Durga Temple has been attacked and all the Murtis have been set ablaze in Gaibandha district. As of now, the Police couldn’t identify or arrest anyone. 

As per the reports, on the night of 2nd of September, 2025; around 2 AM, a minority Hindu man of Hamindpur village under Sadullapur Upazila noticed fire inside the Durga temple. He started screaming. Other villagers rushed to the temple. But, by that time, all the Murtis were damaged. 

A local Hindu man said, “The Murtis were being constructed inside the temple for the upcoming Durga Puja. The construction of the Murtis were almost completed. Amid this, the Murtis were burnt. We have no idea who did this.”

Although the Police failed to arrest a single accused, yet they provided a different version with a bit of speculation in front of the media. 

OC of the Sadullapur Police Station Tajuddin Khandakar said, “There have been a feud between two groups regarding the temple management committee. This incident may be related that issue. We are investigating the matter with all the aspects.”

Due to the fire, the Murti of Maa Durga, Lakshi, Saraswati and Ganesh are completely damaged. 

Current President of the temple management committee Kartik Chandra Das said, “We have no idea who did this. The Police promised us to take action against the accused. But, we’ll try our best to do the Puja this year.”
