On Sunday, 29th of January morning, on-duty BSF jawans shot dead a Bangladeshi cow smuggler in the Amlaguri border of Mekhliganj block of Coochbehar district.
The deceased cow smuggler has been identified as Rabiul Hossain. Rabiul was a resident of Dahgram under the Patgram Upazila of Bangladesh.
According to the BSF, some cow smugglers were smuggling cows and other things to Bangladesh in the early morning hours of Sunday. On-duty jawans told them to stop. But, the smugglers attacked jawans instead. In retaliation, BSF jawans fired several rounds at the smugglers. Smugglers fled to Bangladesh.
Later, the BSF jawans recovered the body of a smuggler. Also, four cows and several bags of sugar were recovered.
BSF sources said that the body had been sent to the Mathavanga hospital for postmortem. After that, the body will be handed over to the BGB( Border Guard of Bangladesh) with a flag meeting.
Locals said that there is no wired fence along the Amlaguri border. That’s why smugglers from Bangladesh use this area for smuggling. They demanded to build a wired fence immediately.
