Bangladesh: Islamists attacked the Kirtan programme in Tangail, several injured

On the evening of the 19th of January, Islamists attacked a ‘Kirtan’ programme in the Tangail district. Several Hindu minorities got injured, and several houses belonging to the Hindu minority community were also vandalised. 

The incident happened in the Poyla village under the Gharinda Union of Tangail district. 

Yesterday night, after the Harinama Kirtan programme, Prasad was distributed among the devotees. Then, some Muslim youths came and took the seats to receive Prasad. After eating the Prasad, the Muslim youths were allegedly demanding for more. But the organisers denied it. Then they left.

But after some time, they returned with many other Islamists, armed with sticks and other country-made weapons. They vandalised the sacred place of Harinama Kirtan and beat the devotees. Then, they attacked the houses of the Hindu minorities adjacent to the place. They also threatened the devotees not to do Harinama Kirtan there.

After some time, a team of Police force from the Tangail Sadar Station reached there. Also, local leaders of the ruling party Awami League reached. They promised to take intense legal action against the Islamists.
