Hindu Voice Team: In a shocking incident, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jiarul Haque has been arrested by the Mal police on charges of raping a tribal woman from Nagrakata. The arrest took place on Monday after the victim, a local Adivasi woman, filed a formal complaint detailing the assault.

According to police reports, Jiarul Haque, a local TMC functionary, was taken into custody after preliminary investigations confirmed credible evidence supporting the allegations. He has been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code relating to rape and criminal intimidation.

Local Adivasi leaders and rights groups have condemned the attack, accusing the authorities of negligence and political bias. They alleged that Haque and his associates had been involved in the exploitation of tribal women for several months, yet police failed to act promptly due to political pressure.

“Such heinous crimes are often suppressed when political figures are involved,” said one local Adivasi activist. “We demand that Jiarul Haque and all his accomplices be punished severely and that justice be delivered swiftly.”

Several social and tribal organizations have staged protests across Malbazar, demanding a fair investigation and the immediate suspension of any police officers who attempted to delay action. They also criticized the state government for its failure to ensure the safety of tribal women, despite repeated promises and numerous welfare schemes.

“The government spends millions on tribal welfare, but if our women are not safe, what’s the point?” asked a spokesperson from the Adivasi Development Forum.

Police sources confirmed that Jiarul Haque is currently in custody and will be produced before the Jalpaiguri district court. Senior officers have assured that no one involved will be spared, regardless of political affiliation.

Meanwhile, Adivasi organizations have urged the formation of a special task force to address rising crimes against tribal women and ensure strict accountability for all offenders.
