Ahead of the Durga Puja, Bangladesh has been witnessing incessant attacks on Hindu temples and Murti vandalism. After Faridpur and Gopalganj, now Durga Murti has been vandalised in Narail district.
As per reports, unknown miscreants vandalised under-construction Durga murti at Purulia village under Kalia Upazila of Narail district. On the night of 28th of September, the Murtis were vandalised inside the village temple, known as Purulia Thakurbari. As the news of vandalism spread, local Hindus gathered in large numbers in front of the temple. Many were terrified remembering attacks in the previous years. They demanded security.
Also, the Police were informed. The Police visited the spot. Locals alleged that the Police is not doing anything to identify or arrest the accused. The Police are trying to suppress the issue, alleged some locals. Notably, this is not the first case of Durga Murti vandalism in Bangladesh.
Few days ago, Durga Murti was vandalised in Gopalganj. Before that, the Durga Murti had been vandalised in Faridpur district. Surprisingly, in both the cases, the Police has failed to arrest the accused persons.
