Bangladesh: “Do not increase the number of Durga Pujas”, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan to Hindus

Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal made a strange remark ahead of the Durga Puja. He said, “Do not increase the number of Durga Pujas”. He made this comment after the special meeting held at the Home Ministry regarding the law and order situation during the days of the Durga Puja.

The Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, said, “Every year, the numbers of Durga Pujas are increasing. This year, 239 more pujas will be organised than last year. We are doing everything possible to secure those Puja Mandapas. Please, do not increase the number of the Durga Pujas.”

He also stated that if a Puja increases, the administration has to take several security measures, such as installing CCTV, deploying Police and civil security forces. So, it’s better not to increase the number of Pujas this year, the Home Minister said.

He also mentioned that this year, the Durga Puja is being organised in 32,407 Mandapas. Apart from volunteers from ‘Puja Udjapan Parishad’, around two lac. Personnel of the Ansar force will be deployed for the security of the Puja Mandapas. Also, the Police force will be monitoring 24/7 during the days of the Puja. Also, the River Police will patrol coastal areas, and the Border Guard of Bangladesh will be alert in border areas. 

He also expressed his concerns about the Murti(idol) breaking incidents, which happen every year. He said, “Attacks and the Murti breaking incidents happen in a few places. Otherwise, the Durga Puja goes in a very peaceful manner.”
