Subrata Babu, owner of Subrata Dahi Mishti Bhandar in Ward No. 15 under Fulhari Union of Jhenaidah District and his nearly 100-year-old mother were assaulted following a dispute over unpaid sweets and curd. Subrata states that several people had previously taken curd from his shop by force without paying. When the same individuals had returned on 5th October and attempted to take good without payment, he refused. Angered by his refusal, the people first attacked Subrata and then assaulted his elderly mother.
The allegations have left the family deeply fearful for both their personal safety and the future of their business. Subrata has called for a proper investigation and legal action against those responsible.
The alleged assault on an elderly woman has particularly shocked local residents. Her reported words after the assault capture the depth of the fear and despair surrounding the case:
“If I have to be beaten at this age, then how can I continue to live in Bangladesh ?”
Local Hindu residents are demanding an impartial investigation and decisive legal action. They are also calling for immediate protection for Subrata Babu, his family and his business. Now the responsibility rests with the authorities.
