Sikh Youth Alleges Assault, Death Threats and Dog Attack After Refusing to Convert to Islam by Mother Preeti Kaur and her Lawyer “Companion” Wasim Raza Khan in Shibpur, West Bengal

A Sikh youth from Shibpur in West Bengal, has accused his own mother Preeti Kaur and her “companion” Wasim Raza Khan of offering him support and care in exchange for converting to Islam and then allegedly assaulting him, unleashing a dog on him and threatening to kill him and his father when he refused.

The allegations, contained in a police complaint filed on June 12, 2026, have triggered outrage among local community groups and sparked demands for a swift and transparent investigation.

Standing outside the Shibpur Police Station, surrounded by members of local Hindu organisations who had gathered to support him, the young man recounted a story that he says began years earlier with a dramatic change in his mother’s behaviour.

A Family Torn Apart

According to the complainant, the turning point came after his mother had entered into a relationship with Wasim Raza Khan, a lawyer by profession. The young man alleges that the woman he knew was transformed within months. Tensions inside the family escalated to the point where both he and his father were forced to live separately from her, he adds in a low voice.

For nearly three years, the youth claims, he lived with his uncle who is taking care of him.

Then came an unexpected attempt at reconciliation.

According to his account, Preeti Kaur recently resumed contact and repeatedly invited him to visit her home. Believing the relationship might finally be repaired, he agreed.

What happened next forms the heart of the complaint now before the police.

The Sikh youth alleges that he was told he would be looked after and supported if he agreed to convert to Islam. He says he refused.

That refusal was met with violence.

According to the complaint, both Preeti Kaur and Wasim Raza Khan physically assaulted him, leaving injuries to his head and body. He further alleges that a dog was deliberately set upon him during the confrontation, biting him multiple times.

The allegations do not end there.

The complainant also accuses the pair of threatening to murder both him and his father. The incident, he says, left him injured, shaken and fearing for his safety.

His uncle has publicly backed the young man’s version of events, stating that the family breakdown and subsequent confrontation occurred exactly as described in the complaint.

Calls for Accountability and Investigation

The case has also drawn the attention of local Hindu organisations, whose members were present outside the police station in support of the complainant. Representatives of these groups have accused Wasim Raza Khan of systematically influencing and “brainwashing” Preeti Kaur, an allegation that remains unproven and has not been tested in court.

They are demanding a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation into the matter, arguing that allegations involving conversion pressure, family coercion, physical violence and death threats warrant the highest level of scrutiny from law-enforcement authorities.

The truth of those allegations will ultimately be determined by evidence and the findings of investigators. Yet the complaint has already raised serious questions that cannot simply be ignored.

For now, one image continues to dominate the case:

A Sikh youth standing outside a police station, injuries fresh, supporters gathered around him, claiming that those responsible were not strangers, criminals or faceless attackers, but his own mother and the man she chose to trust.

Whether the allegations are ultimately proven or disproven, they have ignited demands for answers, accountability and justice. The investigation will now determine where the truth lies.
