Eight members of a minority family were injured, one critically, following an alleged attack linked to a long-running land dispute in Monirampur Upazila of Jashore district, local residents and police said.

The incident occurred on the morning of May 30 in Parkhajura Malopara village under Mashimnagar Union, where attackers reportedly armed with sticks and other locally made weapons assaulted members of the family.

According to residents, tensions between the victim’s family and neighboring individuals had persisted for an extended period over ownership and possession of a parcel of land. The dispute allegedly escalated into violence during Saturday’s confrontation.

Family members also alleged that portions of their home were damaged during the attack.

The injured, including several women, were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Hospital sources said one victim remained in critical condition and was receiving emergency medical care, while the others were treated for their injuries.

Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of the incident. Law-enforcement officials said they were investigating the allegations and would take legal action based on evidence and complaints submitted by the victims.

Additional police personnel were deployed in the area as a precautionary measure to prevent further unrest, authorities said.

Community members and local rights advocates have called for a thorough investigation and urged authorities to identify those responsible and ensure accountability under the law.

The circumstances surrounding the dispute and the identities of the alleged attackers remain under investigation.
