On 22nd of August, the police recovered the dead body of popular Hindu journalist Bibhu Ranjan Sarkar (71) from the Meghna river in the Munshiganj district.
Bivu Ranjan Sarkar was a popular name among the media circles in Bangladesh. He was the senior Assistant Editor of the ‘Ajker Patrika’ newspaper. Besides, he used to write columns in different newspapers on the current issues and foreign affairs.
His son Writ Sarkar said, “On the morning of 21st August, Thursday, my father left home for office in Banashri area. After few hours, we saw that he left his mobile phone in home. So we contacted his office in Banashri area. But, we are informed that my father didn’t go to the office. So we filed a missing complaint in the Ramna Police Station.”
On the afternoon of 22nd of August, locals in Gajaria of the Munshiganj district found a floating body. They informed the police. The Police recovered the body and identity Bivu Ranjan Sarkar.
Assistant Commissioner of the Ramna Division, Masud Alam said, “The body of Bivu Ranjan Sarkar was recovered from the Meghna river. We are investigating to find out how he reached there. His family was also informed.”
However, his family alleged that Bivu Ranjan Sarkar has been murdered. The family demanded a proper investigation.
Many in media circles said that Bivu Ranjan Sarkar was a known Awami League supporter. The perpetrators might have targeted for that reason, they said.
