Bangladesh: Islamist mob tortured a Hindu minority over imaginary blasphemy allegation

Targeting Hindu minorities over imaginary blasphemy allegations continues in Bangladesh. A fresh case has been reported from the Tangail district of Bangladesh where Islamist mob attacked a Hindu gold businessman. However, the Police immediately recovered the accused Hindu man and took him into custody to save his life from being lynched. But, the Islamist mob looted and vandalised his shop. 

Akhil Karmakar is a resident of Delduar village of the Tangail district. Yesterday, on the 6th of April, some Islamists spread rumours that Akhil made derogatory remarks against their prophet Muhammad. Soon, hundreds of Islamist mad mobs attacked Akhil Karmakar while he was in his shop. Islamists vandalised his shop and looted valuable gold jewelleries. Islamists dragged him out of his shop and started beating him.  

A team of the local Police Station immediately reached the spot and recovered Akhil Karmakar from the clutches of the Islamists. Later, he was taken by the Police to a hospital for treatment. Subsequently, the Police arrested Akhil karmakar. 

Some local Hindus said, “Akhil Karmakar has been framed in the case intentionally. Some Muslim businessmen made a conspiracy against him to remove him from the market. They incited local Islamists with the help ‘Jamat-e-Islami’ cadres. However, the Police controlled the situation. But, still we are in fear of being attacked.”
