Tensions prevail at Durgapur village under Sonamura Police Station of Sepahijala district after the death of a cow smuggler. BSF, as well as local police, is on alert.
The cow smuggler is identified as Alamgir Hossain, a resident of Durgapur village.
As per the received information, on Sunday night, patrolling BSF jawans found that some people were smuggling cows to Bangladesh through the unfenced borders. BSF used hand-mic and told them to surrender. Instead, they attacked BSF jawans with sharp weapons. In self-defence, BSF jawans fired several rounds of bullets. Due to this, smugglers fled to Bangladesh.
In the morning, locals found that the body of Alamgir Hossain was lying on the field at Zero Point. This triggered tensions in the area.
Residents said that Alamgir was not a smuggler. They demanded intense punishment against the BSF jawans.
As the tensions spread in the area, massive force from the Sonamura Police Station reached the village and talked to the angry villagers. Angry villagers also threatened that they would allow BSF to enter the town.
Meanwhile, the local Police have taken several precautionary measures. The additional force has been deployed and repeated talks with locals have happened.
