Four Hindu families narrowly escaped death in what local activists have described as a clear attempt at murder in Ward Nos. 7 and 8 of Rauzan, Chattogram on 18th December 2025.
According to the ground report of local Hindu activist Liton Kumar Sharma, the homes of Babul Das, Bimal Talukdar and Pramod Talukdar were deliberately targeted. Doors and windows were sealed from the outside, effectively trapping the occupants inside. The attackers then covered the houses with clothes soaked in flammable material and set fire to the tin roofs, a method that ensures rapid heat buildup and suffocation before flames become visible from outside.
The families survived only because they acted with extraordinary presence of mind. Babul Das and his family had to cut through the tin sheets of their back wall and Bimal Talukdar’s family managed to survive after breaking through their back door. An attempt was made to ignite the home of Pramod Talukdar but the extremists were detected and decided to flee. They returned at around 3 a.m. and set fire to the house of Tejendra Shil and a Buddhist Sadhan Barua.
Local activist Liton Kumar Sharma has described the incident plainly as attempted murder.
The families of Babul Das, Bimal Talukdar, and Pramod Talukdar are alive today not because the system worked, but because they escaped despite it.
