The Meiteis are the indigenous sons and daughters of the soil and have shaped the culture, customs, traditions and civilisational values of Manipur for at least 3000 years (5000 years according to many historians and researchers). They are the last remaining Hindus of our far-East. The Meiteis and Bishnupriya Manipuris face a situation which can only be described as legal or legislative apartheid like
The current political situation and the positions taken by the two largest political parties of Bharat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (B. J. P.) and Congress have pushed the last Hindus of our far-east into the proverbial corner. Even so-called “rashtrawaadi parties” like B. J. P. are criticizing any attempt by Meiteis and Bishnupriyas to seek justice and equal rights in their own motherland.
The diabolical policies of the Indian National Congress
The Congress party has taken a stand that delimitation should be performed based on the next Census to be conducted in 2026. The Manipuris are requesting the Government to perform the delimitation after conducting an NRC and completing the border fencing. Manipur has been a victim of demographic warfare since the 1950s. Large-scale illegal immigration through the porous Indo-Myanmar International Border with the backing of the Church and foreign powers with vested interests like the U.S.A. and the U.K. is being used as a tool to carve out a Christian puppet state in this region.
Most of the illegal immigrants are members of communities who identify themselves as “Kuki-Chin-Mizo” language speakers. The Bharatiya Government had included “any Kuki tribes” in the list of indigenous janajaatis of Manipur as a part of the 2002 “SC-ST Amendment Act. This blunder allowed illegal immigrants to enter Bharat and enjoy the privileges of ST status. Over 15 lakh actual indigenous Hindu-majority Meitei and Bishnupriya Manipuris enjoy no such protection. Such a legislation has only incentivised illegal immigration and census data manipulation. Less than 10% of Burmese illegal immigrants came to Bharat during the “8888 uprising” in 1988. Bharat has become the most popular destination of illegal immigrants since 2002, with at least 40% of Burmese illegal immigrants preferring Bharat [2].
Articles 330 and 332 provide proportional reservation to communities protected by “Scheduled Tribe” status. Large-scale illegal immigration and settlement of so-called “Kuki-Chin-Mizo” language speakers, all of whom claim to be “indigenous tribes” of Manipur have led to a rapid increase in the percentage of people protected by ‘Scheduled Tribe’ status in states like Manipur. With the increase in their population the number of electoral seats reserved for people having ‘Scheduled Tribe’ status have increased. The Manipur state election results show that there is a drastic increase in the number of voters of so-called “Kuki-Chin-Mizo” language speakers. Inspite of having the protection of “Scheduled Tribe” status, the number of Naga MLAs have reduced.
Rapid increase of ST population in Manipur
Year | Number of people with ST status | Percentage population of people with |
1981 | 3,87,977 | 27.3% |
1991 | 6,32,000 | 34.4% |
2001 | 7,41,000 | 32.2% |
2011 | 11,67,422 | 40.9% [3] |
Currently there are 19 seats reserved for people with “ST status”. The rapid increase in their population would mean that if a delimitation ( redrawing of the boundaries of electoral constituencies) is done on the basis of a Census performed in 2026 without identifying and deporting/isolating the illegal immigrants, the Hindu-majority indigenous Meiteis would lose electoral representation in at least 6 more Vidhan Sabha assemblies. The insistence of Congress that delimitation should be performed based on the planned Census of 2026 without accounting for illegal immigration is a continuation of their policy of empowering the so-called “Kuki-Chin-Mizo” language-speakers (like the creation of Pherzawl and Kangpokpi Districts) [4].
The self-serving Manipur Policy of B.J.P.
The term “Vikalp kaha hai ?” cannot be used to justify the failures of a political party whose core vote bank has given them two successive majorities at the Central Government level. Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech on 03.04.2025 perfectly captures the essence of their Manipur Policy and exposes it’s many flaws :
Amit Shah and other senior B.J.P. leaders have refused to entertain any discussion on reforming the legislations inspired by colonial “divide and rule” policy, like the Manipur Land Revenue Act (1960), District Councils Act (1971), Article 371C and SC-ST Amendment Act (2002). These acts continue to discriminate against the indigenous Hindu-majority Manipuris and is a major reason for the destruction of local culture. Instead of addressing such divisive and destructive legislations, the party leadership is busy criticising the desperate pleas and attempts of an indigenous Hindu-majority community facing an existential threat.
Only Kuki extremists have killed or wounded security personnel during the ongoing violence. 13 security personnel have lost their lives since 03.05.2023. Monkey-balancing and irresponsible statesmanship have led to discontent and anger among Manipuri youth. Once dormant Valley-Based Insurgent Groups are trying to reignite the flames of separatism by recruiting them.
Lessons from Manipur
Manipur shows clearly that political parties are more about optics and less about actual action. It is impossible to solve civilisational issues through party-politics alone. Political alternatives are necessary but Hindu society must empower themselves through Hindu -only economies like Sanatan Certification Board, Sanatan Censorship Board. Party-based politics must be replaced with manifesto based politics at District, State and Central levels. Central financial reserves and reliable points of contact must be created at national and state levels so that help can be provided when needed. Measures must be taken to bring-back the self-respect among Hindus at grassroots levels. Hindu society and civilisation can only survive by being strong and independent enough to keep politicians and political parties under their proverbial heel.
