Assam: 4 Islamists allegedly abduct and gangrape a Hindu woman in Cachar, arrested

In a distressing incident, Islamists allegedly abducted and gangraped a married Hindu woman in Shiva Tilla area of Lakhipur of Cachar district of Assam. After receiving the complaint, the Police immediately launched an investigation and arrested four Islamists. 

The arrested Islamists were identified as Jamir Uddin Barbhuiya, Samsul Haque Laskar, Abul Hussain Laskar and Masuk Uddin Barbhuiya. Among them, prime accused, Jamir Uddin Barbhuiya tried to flee after attacking the Police officials. 

According to the sources, the Hindu woman belongs to the Bishnupriya Manipuri community. In the morning of 16th of March, the victim woman was on the street for a walk. The Islamists allegedly abducted her from the road and gangraped her. 

Upon receiving the report, Cachar Police officials launched a comprehensive investigation, leading to the identification and apprehension of four Islamists from the various parts of the district. 

SP, Cachar, Numal Mahatta said, “In her statement, the victim disclosed that they attempted to gang rape her, with the prime accused identified as Jamir Uddin Barbhuiya, a resident of Silchar.”

Numal Mahatta, SP of Cachar also described about the encounter after the arrest of the prime accused. He stated, “Accompanied by law enforcement, the suspect led authorities to an abandoned area in Dolugram, where he attempted to assault officials, resulting in injuries to Santosh Pegu, a constable. 

The Cachar SP further explained, “In response, Cachar Police resorted to restrain firearm use, injuring the suspect’s leg before successfully securing him.”
