West Bengal: Muslim businessman threatens to stop Harinam Sankritan, started after Police intervention

A Harinama Sankritan program was stopped in the Kashthashali market under the jurisdiction of the Purbasthali Police Station of Purba Bardhaman district. Later, after the police intervention, the Harinama Sankritan was started again on Wednesday evening. 

On Tuesday morning, the Bazaar Committee organised the yearly Kali Mata Puja. As a tradition, a Harinama Sankritan is organised every year. 

But this year, a Muslim businessman in the market threatened to stop the Harinama Sankritan program and also threatened to face dire consequences. Due to this, the Puja committee stopped the Harinama Sankritan. 

Meanwhile, the Purbasthali Police Station was informed. A team of the police reached the area. Also, the Muslim businessman was called. A police team was deployed near the Puja mandap.

Later, the Harinama Sankritan was started in the evening of 3rd of April, Wednesday. 

Secretary of the market committee, Amal Nath, said, “It is our tradition to organise Harinama Sankritan. It has been happening for the last 50 years. But, this year, a businessman tried to stop the program. But, after police intervention, the program was started again.”
