Within 72 hours of recovery of the dead body of a woman in Swarupnagar of North 24 Parganas, the Police arrested a man named Nisar Ali Molla. He is a resident of Nandibari village of Bithari-Hakimpur Gram Panchayat under Swarupnagar Police Station.
The woman has been identified as Sumaiya Akhtar, a Bangladeshi citizen. Sumaiya Akhtar illegally entered Bharat a few years ago. Sumaiya Akhtar was a resident of Shyampur of Faridpur district of Bangladesh. She used to work in a beauty parlour in Mumbai. She was trying to return to Bangladesh illegally.
Notably, the woman was brutally murdered. Her throat was slit and face was burnt beyond recognition. Her hands and legs were tied. After murder, the body was disposed of in the field of a village around one kilometre away from the international border.
After preliminary investigation, SP of Basirhat Police District, JB Thomas said, “Such people generally carry a good amount of money and ornaments while returning to Bangladesh. But nothing was found from the victim’s bag which was found near the body. So, we suspect that those were looted from her before being murdered.
The Police also informed that during the investigation, a spectacle case was found from her bag. There was an address of Faridpur in Bangladesh. Based on that information, the Police were able to identify her and also informed her family in Bangladesh.
Also, there was no evidence found if she entered Bharat legally and was returning to Bangladesh legally.
Thomas said, “The Police are yet not sure whether the victim entered Bharat legally. We hope to get information on it only after her family members reach here.”
