Hindu Voice Team: In a decisive action against illegal immigration, police arrested a Bangladeshi national from Champahati, Baruipur, exposing a sophisticated voter ID forgery operation. The man, identified as Amir Hamza, had entered India illegally in 2014, paying ₹2,200 to a boatman to cross the Basirhat river border.
After coming to India, Amir Hamza took a false Hindu identity and introduced himself as Sanjay Mondal.
Officials revealed that Amir Hamza assumed a false identity and obtained a forged Indian voter ID through a local middleman, reportedly for ₹12,000. During the operation, authorities seized both his Bangladeshi voter ID and the fraudulent Indian voter ID, confirming the deception.
Amir Hamza had been residing and working in the area while sending money back to his family in Bangladesh, authorities said.
The arrest sheds light on the growing menace of illegal infiltration and document forgery in West Bengal, prompting authorities to intensify efforts to crack down on cross-border crimes and dismantle the networks that facilitate such activities.
This case serves as a stern reminder of the persistent threat posed by illegal immigrants exploiting loopholes in local documentation systems.
