A case of abduction and conversion has surfaced from Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. A minor Hindu girl(15) has been allegedly abducted and converted. But, even after filing a complaint, the Police remained inactive as the abductor is the relative of an influential leader of the ruling party, TMC. Also, the High Court directed the Police to give necessary security to the girl’s family.

As per the received information, the minor Hindu girl was a resident of Maligram village under the jurisdiction of Pingla Police Station of Paschim Medinipur district. On the 18th of June, the girl went missing from Namchi of Sikkim. Her father filed a missing complaint at Namchi Police Station. Later, he also filed an abduction case in Pingla Police Station of Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. However, the Police remained inactive for unknown reasons. So, to get back his daughter, Tapan Sashmal filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court.

Tapan Sashmal alleged, “The kidnapper Asibur Rahman is the close relative of a powerful leader of the ruling party TMC. Asibur threatened to kidnap my daughter. To secure my daughter’s life, I sent him to Sikkim, where her uncle works. But, from there, Asibur Rahman kidnapped my daughter. But, after filing a complaint, the Pingla Police have not done anything to recover my daughter. I fear she has been converted forcefully. I want my daughter back.”

During the petition hearing, Justice Tapobrata Chakraborty and Justice Parthasarathi Chattopadhyay of the Division Bench expressed their grudge over the Police investigation. The Division Bench directed the Police to recover the minor girl within one week and hand her to the Child Welfare Committee.

The lawyer representing the girl’s family, Tanmay Basu, alleged, “The Police tried to save the kidnapper Asiur Rahman as he is the close relative of a powerful TMC leader who is the Anchal Sabhapati of Pingla.”

The next hearing will be on the 6th of October.
