Hindu Voice Team: UK Police Confirm Islamist Motive in Manchester Synagogue Attack. British authorities have confirmed that the deadly attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester on October 2, 2025, was an act of Islamist extremism. The assailant, Jihad al-Shamie, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent, rammed his car into pedestrians before launching a stabbing spree during Yom Kippur services. He was shot dead by police at the scene. Two victims, Adrian Daulby (53) and Melvin Cravitz (66), were killed, with one reportedly fatally shot by police during the response. Three others sustained serious injuries.

Al-Shamie was out on bail for an alleged rape at the time of the attack and had a criminal history, including a 2012 death threat to Conservative MP John Howell. While not previously flagged by counterterrorism authorities, investigators are examining his potential links to Islamist ideology. His father had previously expressed support for Hamas.

In the wake of the attack, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence, emphasizing that the assault targeted Jews “because they are Jews” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating rising antisemitism. The Jewish community has expressed deep concern over the incident, highlighting the need for increased security and solidarity.

Authorities have arrested six individuals in connection with the attack, and the investigation continues. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is reviewing the police response, particularly the accidental shooting of one victim.

The attack has intensified concerns over rising antisemitism and extremism in the UK, prompting increased security measures at Jewish institutions nationwide. Vigils have been held in Manchester, with the community mourning the loss of the victims and expressing solidarity in the face of hate.
