‘Leave Hindu Deities and Convert for Health, Wealth, Prosperity’: Shantipur Erupts Over Poster Offering Miracles and Material Gain for Embracing Christianity, Police Complaint Filed

A poster promising freedom from illness, financial prosperity and a better life in exchange for embracing Christianity has triggered controversy in Shantipur of Nadia District, prompting a complaint at the local police station.

The poster near New Laxmi Club in Baganchra under Shantipur police station, has raised serious concerns over attempts to exploit people’s vulnerabilities through religious messaging. Rather than merely promoting a faith, the material promises relief from illness, financial prosperity and a better life through conversion to Christianity.

More controversially, the poster portrays the worship of Hindu deities and the absence of Christian belief among large sections of India’s population as explanations for people contracting diseases. It also invokes Europe’s economic prosperity to suggest a direct connection between Christianity and material advancement.

Such claims have sparked concern among local residents and a complaint has been lodged with Shantipur police objecting to the poster. Authorities are now looking into who put it up, whether an organised group was behind its circulation and what purpose the campaign was intended to serve.
