Hindu Voice Team: Tension gripped Mansai village under Barokodali-2 Panchayat in the Tufangaj Assembly Constituency after unidentified miscreants vandalised a Kali idol. The head of the Murti was found broken, sparking outrage among locals.
BJP MLA Malati Rava Roy visited the village following the incident. She alleged that this was not an isolated case, claiming that several Murtis had been vandalised in recent days. “During my visit, some TMC cadres threatened me and tried to stop me from speaking to the villagers,” she told reporters.
Local residents expressed fear and anger over the incident. “We have never faced such a situation before. People come to worship the goddess, and now we are scared that even our temples are not safe,” said a villager who requested anonymity.
The incident has triggered a political row, with BJP accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of shielding miscreants and failing to protect Hindu religious sites. The TMC, however, dismissed the allegations as political propaganda, saying investigations are underway and no conclusions should be drawn prematurely.
Police officials have yet to issue an official statement regarding the vandalism or the alleged threats to the MLA.
The repeated attacks on the Hindu temples have raised a worrying question in the minds of many — is West Bengal slowly becoming like Bangladesh, where reports of temple and Murti desecrations among Hindu communities are increasingly common?
Community leaders have urged authorities to increase security around temples and take swift action against perpetrators to prevent further tension in the region.
