The two suspects, identified as Mehedi Hasan Suman (also known as Rakib) and Najmul Islam, are both fifth-grade students in a Madrasa, according to police officials.

According to the police, the incident traces back to the afternoon of Wednesday, September 17, when the two students went to observe the idol-making process at a workshop in Namabāzār area. They later claimed that they were treated disrespectfully by the artisans there. Harboring resentment, they decided to exact revenge.

Under the cover of evening, in the absence of crowds, the boys entered the pandal (temporary festival structure) and began the vandalism. First, Najmul is said to have initiated the destruction of the idols, and then Suman followed his lead, damaging additional idols. Both ultimately confessed to their actions during police interrogation.
