Amid ongoing Durga Puja, Islamic radicals are trying to incite anti-Hindu violence in Muslim majority Bangladesh. With an attempt to create a 2021-like situation, a Muslim youth entered a Durga Puja mandap to place the Quran Sharif. But, vigilant Hindu volunteers caught the Muslim youth and handed him over to the Police.
The incident has been reported from Hathazari Upazila of Chattagram district of Bangladesh. The arrested Muslim youth has been identified as Muhammed Shah Alam, a resident of Najirhat area of Narsingdi district.
As per the reports, in the evening of 21st of October, members of the Hathazari Puja Committee saw a youth inside Puja mandap with a bag in his hand. The youth was allegedly trying to get close to the Murtis. On doubts, members of the Puja Committee caught the youth and searched his bag. They found a Quran Sharif and other Islamic books in the bag. Immediately, they informed the Police personnel deployed in the security of the Puja mandap. But, on-duty Police official of Hathazari Model Police Station, SI Jasim released the youth citing that the youth is mentally unstable.
Meanwhile, Hindus were unhappy about this. They expressed their anger on social media platforms. Also, local media platforms also raised serious concerns against this act of the Police. Later, high-ranking officials reached the mandap and promised to take necessary action. Within a few hours, the Police arrested the youth.
Officer-in-Charge of Hathazari Model Police Station Maniruzzaman Monir said, “The youth has been sent to the judicial custody. The court also ordered a medical examination to decide if the arrested is mentally ill or not.”
