A Kali temple in Nandigram upazila of Bogura district, Bangladesh, was allegedly vandalised on 25th of September, Friday morning, with the temple authorities claiming that money from the donation box and several puja items were stolen.
The incident took place at the Daharpur Kalimata Temple in Matihans village under Bhatra Union at around 8 am, according to Nandigram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam.
Temple priest Shri Khagendranath Pramanik said he had left for home after completing the usual worship at the temple on Thursday evening. When he returned on Friday morning, he found the donation box broken and various items inside the temple scattered.
He also noticed that one of the Murtis was missing.
According to the priest, the missing Murti was later recovered from a nearby pond in a discarded condition. Another idol, identified as “Sannyasi Thakur”, was reportedly found lying in a paddy field beside the regional road connecting Matihans and Hatkoroi.
The temple authorities alleged that a brass bell, trident, brass gong, brass plate and other puja articles, along with cash from the donation box, were stolen during the incident.
After receiving information about the alleged vandalism and theft, a police team visited the temple and inspected the site.
Speaking in the afternoon, Nandigram Police Station OC Tarikul Islam said that a village delegation had submitted a complaint at the police station in connection with the incident.
He said the matter would be investigated and legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
