Assam: The teacher removes ‘Janeu’ of a Hindu student before entering the exam hall 

In a sad turn of events, a teacher forced a Hindu student to remove his sacred thread ‘Janeu’. Citing the rules, the teacher removed kalava, rings and other things. However, the removal of the ‘Janeu’ sparked huge controversy.

The incident has been reported from the Barpeta district of Assam. 

On the 15th of May, Wednesday, the entrance examination to the Bhawanipur Anchalik Mahavidyalaya was scheduled. Before entering the exam hall, the teachers were checking students. Teachers removed kalava, rings and sacred threads from the hands of the Hindu students. 

A Hindu student alleged that the teachers forced him to remove his ‘Janeu’. After removing the Janeu, the student gave it to his mother and entered the exam hall.

As the news spread, it created controversy. Several Hindu activists demanded intense action against the accused teacher for hurting dharmic sentiments.

Meanwhile, Mukunda Sharma, the principal of the college, tried to appease the controversy by giving excuses. He said, “It is in the rule to remove rings before entering the exam hall. A ring was attached to the Janeu, so it was removed.” 

Shri Satya Ranjan Borah, the president of the Hindu organisation ‘Kutumba Suraksha Parishad’, expressed his anger in his Facebook post. He said, “ Janeu is an integral part of Hindu Sanskar. Its removal is an insult to the whole Sanatan Hindu Samaj. Who made these rules and regulations to remove these and those things during the exam? These rules must be changed. And, it’s unfortunate to see that leaders who claim themselves as a protector of the Hindu Dharma are silent in this issue.”
