Assam: Manjarul Haque tried to abduct a minor Hindu girl in Karimganj, arrested

In the evening of 20th of July, serious law and order issue sparked in Silchar Road of Karimganj when a man was confronted by locals over an alleged abduction attempt of a minor Hindu girl. Later, the youth was handed over to the police. 

The arrested youth is identified as Manjarul Haque. He is a resident of Achhimganj area. 

As per received information, the minor Hindu girl from the Sarisha area was returning from her coaching classes. On the road, Manjarul Haque allegedly stopped her. When she tried to avoid him, the accused youth threatened to throw acid on her face if she didn’t sit on his motorcycle. On this, the girl shouted for help. 

Hearing her screams, locals standing nearby rushed and caught the youth. The girl alleged that the youth is forcing her to sit on his motorcycle. This allegation provoked anger among locals and they started to beat the accused youth. 

Hearing the news, a team of police personnel from Karimganj Sadar Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued the accused youth Manjarul Haque from angry locals. Later, police arrested him.

As per the latest available information, police have registered a case against the accused under ‘The Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act, 2012’ and Karimganj SP Partha Protim Das is himself supervising the investigation.
