Assam: 444 Villages under water, nearly 31,000 people affected

Severe floods is in 10 districts of Assam and nearly 31, 000 people affected. According to officials, situation may become worse in coming days.

As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority(ASDMA) report, more than 30, 700 people are affected due to the floods. Several parts of Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Udalgiri district are mostly affected.

Lakhimpur district is the worst hit with at least 22,000 people are affected followed by Dibrugarh and Kokrajhar district. 

Currently, 444 villages are under water and 4741 hectares of crop areas have been damaged due to floods, according to officials.

Right now, administration is running 25 relief distribution centres accross seven districts of the state. 

The floods situation may be worsen as meteorological department issued alert of more rains in coming days. Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Red Alert’ and predicted from ‘very heavy’ to ‘extremely heavy’ rainfall in the state in next five days.
