3 Recent Love Jihad Cases from West Bengal

Love Jihad cases rising in West Bengal in an alarming number. Every month, new cases come to light from different districts. Many girls are recovered, but many are not. Recently, three such have surfaced where three Hindu girls became victims of Love Jihad. But after filing complaints in respected police stations, they have not been recovered. Family members alleged that police did not take any steps to trace or recover the girls as they are above 18 years of age.

Case 1: A case of Love has come from Durgapur town of Paschim Bardhaman district. Pinak Pani Adhya in his written complaint(FIR number: 325/23, dated 04/07/2023) alleged that her daughter Sneha(Name changed) has been trapped in love by Seikh Samir Khan, a resident of Pukur Par slum.

After that, Seikh Samir allegedly kidnapped her daughter and took her to an unknown location. Till now, he could not get any clue about where his daughter is.

The Father of the victim alleged, “As my daughter is above 18 years of age, police are not willing to find her and arrest the culprit. Even they have not tried to trace my daughter. From various sources, I came to know that Samir has kidnapped my daughter. I’m very much worried about my daughter.”

Case 2: Another case of Love Jihad has come to light from Uttar Banagram village under the jurisdiction of Bhangore Police Station of South 24 Parganas district. Her father filed a missing complaint(MR No- 61/23 dated 23/05/2023) at the police station on 23/05/23. Later based on the investigation, police filed an FIR and started an investigation.

As per the father of the missing daughter, Rima Mondal(Name changed) was studying for Graduation at the local college ‘Bhangore Mahavidyalaya’. On the 22nd of May, she went missing from college.

Her father said, “She didn’t return home from college. At first, we searched for her in every possible place. But we couldn’t find her. So, I filed a missing complaint at the police station. Later, I come to know that Najibul Molla, who lived in the neighbourhood, trapped my daughter in Love and kidnapped her. But till now, police couldn’t find or recover her. I think the police are not willing to find her.” 

As per local sources and her parent, Rima became a victim of Love Jihad. Najibul Molla trapped the college girl in Love and kidnapped her. Till now, she is missing. Her parents or concerned police have no idea about her whereabouts. 

Case 3: Another case of Love Jihad has come from the Singur Police Station area of the Hooghly district of West Bengal. The name of the victim is Puja Das(Name changed). She has been allegedly abducted by Hasibul Jaman Baidya, a resident of Nasibpur village under the jurisdiction of the Singur Police Station area on 17/03/2023.

Her father Mukundaram Das alleged, “My daughter has been trapped in love and kidnapped by Hasibul Jaman. I filed a complaint at the police station and prayed to recover my daughter. But after four months passed, till police couldn’t find my daughter.”

It is a known fact that lots of Love Jihad cases have been happening in remote areas in West Bengal. The pattern is the same- trap in love, then elop by promising marriage and then convert her to Islam. But in these three cases, the police didn’t take any steps to recover the girls, as girls are major in age. Even, though the police did not try to trace the girls, no one can deny the fact that the police filed an FIR initially, the near and dear ones of the victims alleged.
