27 Days of Waiting for Justice: Father Demands Action Over Repeated Rape and Blackmail of Minor Hindu Daughter by Monirul Pailan in Joynagar, West Bengal

A written complaint filed at Joynagar Police Station on 2 September 2026 has raised grave allegations concerning the alleged repeated sexual assault of a minor girl by Monirul Pailan.

According to the complaint filed by the girl’s father Gopal, Pailan stalked his minor daughter repeatedly while she was travelling to school and attempted to speak to her inspite of  her objections. Gopal also accused Pailan of grabbing her daughter’s hand and attempting to drag her away multiple times. With the child having lost her mother nine years ago, Gopal says he was compelled to send her to a hostel for her safety.

The harassment did not stop there. According to the complaint, Pailan waited outside the hostel for the girl and after being warned by her to stay away, began blackmailing her.

Gopal further alleges that because his work often kept him away from home, his daughter was sometimes left alone for extended periods. According to the complaint and the family’s allegations, Pailan repeatedly climbed into their home when the girl was alone and raped her.

The family claims that Pailan demanded that she marry him and threatened to kill her if she refused.

Twenty-seven days after the written complaint was filed, Gopal alleges that Monirul Pailan has still not been arrested. On 28th September, visibly distressed and in tears, Gopal recorded an appeal seeking help from Hindu organisations, while also asking for protection for his daughter and family.

The family is asking for action, not more empty promises.
