15-Year-Old Hindu Boy Fatally Attacked in Shivamogga While Trying to Stop Fight; Muslim Minors Detained

Hindu Voice Team: A 15-year-old Class 10 student, identified as Sanketh, died on Monday, February 23 evening after being assaulted by a group of Muslim minors in the Uragadur/Sulebailu area of Shivamogga district. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. as Sanketh was returning home from special classes at his government high school.

According to police, the confrontation began when Sanketh tried to intervene in an ongoing dispute involving a group of boys who were reportedly arguing over a recent cricket match. Sanketh stepped in to help a friend who was being targeted. During the altercation, he suffered blows to his chest and other parts of his body and collapsed at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Investigation and Legal Action

Shivamogga police have detained seven Muslim minors in connection with the assault. All the individuals involved are known to each other and reportedly attended the same school. Police have registered a murder case and formed a special investigation team to probe the circumstances leading up to the attack. Forensic tests, including blood analysis, are underway.

Official Response

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the incident as “tragic and deeply disturbing,” stressing the need for strict legal action against those responsible. The government announced ₹15 lakh compensation for the bereaved family and assured that a fair and thorough investigation would be conducted.

Police have also increased deployment in the area to maintain peace and prevent tensions from escalating.
