Hindu persecution continues in Bangladesh ahead of general elections. Now, news is coming in that Awami League-backed Islamists attacked Hindu villages for not joining the rally. The incident has been reported from Sripur village under the Madhuhati Union of Jhenaidah district.
As per the reports, the Madhuhati Union unit of Awami League had organised a rally. Local Awami League leaders told Hindu villagers of Sripur village to participate in the rally. But, the Hindu villagers unanimously boycotted the rally. Not a single Hindu resident of the town joined the rally. And this angered local Awami League leaders.
On the 29th of November night, a gang of Islamists led by Faruk Hossain Juel attacked the village. Armed with country-made arms, sticks and sharp weapons, Islamists ruthlessly beat up several people. They also stabbed and injured several others. Four Hindu villagers were seriously injured in the attack. Among them, three were sent to Dhaka for better treatment, as their conditions were severe.
Hindu villagers who were injured in the attack are Santosh Kumar Biswas, Amal Kumar Biswas, Biswajit Pramanik and Chirabjib Kumar Biswas.Hindu villagers said that a few days ago, Awami League-backed Islamists tried to grab the land of the only crematorium ground in the village. Islamists cut and took away the trees from the land. Local Hindus protested, but nothing happened. So, in protest, Hindu villagers decided to boycott Awami League’s rally.
However, the Hindu villagers filed a complaint in the Police Station. Based on the complaint, the Police arrested three persons. The arrested persons are Faruk Hossain Juel, Secretary of Awami League’s Madhuhati Union unit, Titon and Miraj Hossain.
