Assam: Anwar Ali burnt Hindu temple in Karimganj, arrested after encounter

The Assam Police arrested Anwar Ali, the mastermind behind the burning of Hindu temple at Ratabari. He was hiding at a remote village in Tripura. He was planning to flee to Bangladesh. But, before that, the Assam Police raided the village on the night of 18th of November, Saturday and arrested him. 

Notably, on 7th of November, unknown miscreants set fire a Hindu temple in Ratabari. The Shiva temple is more than hundred years old. The incident created tensions in the area as local Hindus doubted the role of Muslim settlers behind this. After this, local MLA and high ranking Police officials visited the village and promised proper legal action against the perpetrators. After this, the Police arrested three Muslim youths. But, the main accused Anwar Ali was absconding. 

As per the reports, based on the secret information, a team of Assam Police reached Tripura’s Rasyabari village. There, the Police arrested Anwar Ali. The Police brought him to Assam.

On Sunday, 19th of November morning, the Police were taking him to his native village for further investigation. On the way, accused Anwar Ali attacked on-duty Police officials and tried to flee. After repeated warnings, he didn’t stop. Then the Police fired several rounds of bullets iming his legs. Anwar Ali got injured and fell on the ground. Meanwhile, the Police recovered him and took him to Ramkrishnanagar Hospital. He is undergoing treatment there.
